Tuesday’s non-conference game against visiting Des Moines Hoover wasn’t expected to be much of a test for the Ankeny Centennial girls’ basketball team.
And it wasn’t.
The fourth-ranked Jaguars jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter, built a 43-3 advantage at halftime and cruised to a 75-17 victory over their winless opponent.
“The game went as expected,” said Centennial coach Scott DeJong. “We got lots of playing time for everybody.”
Hoover dropped to 0-13 on the season. The Huskies have lost 10 games by at least 40 points, including an 87-0 setback to Waukee Northwest on Dec. 14.
Jaeden Pratt and Kennedy White each scored 15 points as Centennial (10-2) extended its winning streak to four games. White also grabbed eight rebounds.
It was a career-high for Pratt; the freshman’s previous high was eight points in a win over Ames on Jan. 7. Pratt, who made 6-of-8 shots from the field, also had three steals and two blocks.
Ava Martin, another freshman, also had a career-high. She finished with 11 points.
Averi Porter tied her season-high with 10 points for the Jaguars, who allowed fewer than 20 points for the fourth time this season.
Centennial will play three games in four days this week. The Jaguars will play a make-up game at Fort Dodge on Thursday before hosting Mason City in another CIML Iowa Conference contest on Friday.
