The windy conditions made things difficult for the Ankeny girls’ golf team on Tuesday at Otter Creek.
The Hawkettes still managed to post a 199-254 victory over Fort Dodge in their CIML Iowa Conference opener.
“Once again, I was extremely proud of the way our girls faced the adverse weather conditions and had positive attitudes throughout the entire round,” said Ankeny coach Seth Hagarty. “They all showed grit and determination to not let the wind impact their mindset.”
Gia Blaser, Isabella Ross and Olivia Froehlich each carded a 49 to lead Ankeny. The trio finished at 13-over-par.
Blaser earned medalist honors for the first time in her career after a cardoff–she made a bogey on the par-4, No. 2 hole that proved to be the difference. Ross was the runner-up.
Addison Smith shot a 52 for the Hawkettes. Naomi SchraderBachar had a 55, and Gabby Schnepf added a 56.
“We came out victorious and truly set the stage for our season-long goal of continuous improvement with a positive mindset,” Hagarty said. “I could not be happier with the outcome.”
Ankeny will travel to Mason City on Thursday for another conference dual meet at the Mason City Country Club.
“We are scheduled to make up our meet from last week, but unfortunately the weather forecast is predicting very cold and very windy conditions,” Hagarty said. “We will have to wait and see if we actually get to play or if we will try to reschedule for another time.”
