The Ankeny Centennial girls’ tennis team evened its overall record at 2-2 with a 10-1 victory over visiting Des Moines Roosevelt in a non-conference meet on Tuesday.
The only win for the Roughriders (2-1) came at No. 3 singles, where Addie Pennington won by default over Centennial’s Rozzie Sterling.
“Rozzie had to forfeit due to illness in the middle of her match,” said Centennial coach Alli Gustafson.
The Jaguars swept the other five singles matches in straight sets. They also won all five doubles matches, four of them in straight sets.
Madison Price and Ara Lofgren rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (2) victory over Lydia Smith and Pennington in the No. 2 doubles match.
“The girls all played super well,” Gustafson said. “It was fun to see them all get a victory! Ara and Madison fought back after losing the first set. They really turned their game around and dominated the second set along with the super-tiebreaker! I was proud of how they were able to change their game to come out on top.”
The Jaguars will face Ankeny in a CIML Iowa Conference matchup on Thursday.
