Jesus Gonzalez and Andrew Heckenlaible each scored a pair of goals to lead the sixth-ranked Ankeny Centennial boys’ soccer team to a 7-1 victory over visiting Des Moines Lincoln in a non-conference game on Thursday.
Ty Duax had one goal and three assists for the Jaguars, who improved to 7-1 with their sixth straight win. Lincoln’s record dropped to 0-7.
“It was a good team win,” said Centennial coach Brian Duax. “But we have to be cleaner and more clinical in front of the goal.”
Centennial built a 3-0 halftime lead, then added four more goals in the second half. The Railsplitters scored a late goal–just their third of the season–to avoid a shutout.
“I was disappointed to give up a goal,” Duax said.
Jackson Helmkamp had a goal and two assists in the win. Lucas Cowman had Centennial’s other goal.
Clayson Cox and Quinn Geiger each added an assist for the Jaguars, who will host Mason City (0-3) in a CIML Iowa Conference game on Friday.
