The Ankeny boys’ tennis team dropped to 1-5 on the season with an 8-3 loss to visiting Des Moines Roosevelt in a non-conference meet on Tuesday.
The Roughriders won five of the six singles matches and three of the five doubles contests. They improved to 6-1 overall.
Sam Parkinson had a good day for the Hawks. He posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over Beckett LaPrade at No. 4 singles, then teamed up with Owen Somers for a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Graeme Kempkes and Jack Kehoe at No. 2 doubles.
Ankeny’s other win came at No. 4 doubles, where the duo of Aiden Walker and Cale Josten needed three sets to beat LaPrade and Drew Israel, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (7).
The Hawks will travel to Marshalltown on Thursday for a CIML Iowa Conference matchup against the No. 6 Bobcats (8-1).
