Prior to Monday’s Dragon Invitational, the Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team had posted scores in the 370s on three different occasions this season.
The Jaguars nearly broke into the 360s at Jester Park.
Centennial shot a 370 and placed fourth in the 11-team field, despite another day of cold and wet conditions.
“We were so close today to scoring in the 360s,” said Centennial coach John Petersen. “One stroke and we would have met that goal! But it’s always good to shoot our lowest score this year.”
Second-ranked Valley won the meet for the third straight time. The Tigers shot a 320 to finish 29 strokes ahead of Southeast Polk.
Kayla Moline and Saffire Sayre each fired a 5-over-par 77 to lead Valley, but Moline earned medalist honors after a cardoff. She birdied the par-5, No. 2 hole.
Payton Drefke shot an 88 to place 10th for Centennial. She made a birdie on the par-4, No. 14 hole.
Vivian Wilson carded a 92 for the Jaguars. Kaitlyn Ault had a 94, Olivia Joensen fired a 96, Grace Miller had a 98, and Tessa Woerdehoff finished with a 118.
