The Ames Quadrangular on Tuesday gave the Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team a chance to play Veenker Golf Course before a Class 4A regional meet on May 18.
The Jaguars, who found out on Tuesday that they had been assigned to the Veenker regional, placed second among the four teams with a 194. Ankeny, which has been assigned to the Willow Creek regional, took third with a 204.
Marshalltown shot a 178 to easily win the meet. The host Little Cyclones finished fourth with a 212.
Due to some earlier postponements, Tuesday’s meet was used as a dual meet between Ankeny and Ames. The Hawkettes evened their record at 2-2 in the CIML Iowa Conference with the win.
Centennial lost its dual meet against Marshalltown, but defeated the Little Cyclones. The Jaguars are now 3-2 in the league.
Marshalltown’s Amber Henson carded a 1-over-par 37 on the back nine to earn medalist honors. Her sister, Natalie, was the runner-up with a 43.
Centennial’s Payton Drefke also shot a 43 and placed third. Olivia Joensen took fifth with a 46, Vivian Wilson had a 52, Grace Miller shot a 53, Samantha Lazear had a 57, and Delaney Miller added a 68.
Addison Smith shot a 44 to place fourth for Ankeny, while Naomi SchraderBachar carded a 51 and finished 10th. Isabella Ross had a 53, Gia Blaser fired a 56, and Olivia Froehlich finished with a 59.
The Hawkettes played their second straight meet without senior Gabby Schnepf.
“She has had a stomach bug this week and really hasn’t felt great, so she stayed home and rested up,” said Ankeny coach Seth Hagarty. “Hopefully, she is feeling better soon!”
The Hawkettes will play in the Southeast Polk Invitational on Thursday at Copper Creek.
