Ankeny sprinter Eva Fulk has committed to join the Northern Iowa women’s track and field program.
Fulk said the process of choosing a school was an easy one for her.
“I did look at a few other schools in the Midwest, but it didn’t take me long to choose and it wasn’t a tough decision,” she said. “Once I saw the school and watched a practice, I knew UNI was where I wanted to be. UNI also has a great psychology program, which is what I plan to study.”
Fulk’s former teammate, Eva van de Mortel, is a freshman sprinter on the UNI roster. Former Ankeny Centennial standout Millie Hill is a freshman hurdler for the Panthers.
As a freshman in 2019, Fulk ran on Ankeny’s state champion 4×100 relay. She also captured a Drake Relays title in the event.
After missing her sophomore season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fulk helped the Hawkettes to a tie for fourth place in last year’s Class 4A state meet–their highest finish since 1997. She ran on the third-place 4×100 relay.
Fulk is also an outfielder on the Ankeny softball team. She said she also considered playing that sport in college.
“Early in my high school career, I did have interest in playing college softball,” she said. “I went on a few visits to different schools and talked to some coaches, but my viewpoint really started to change after my junior year of track.”
Fulk’s brother, Weston, is a freshman on the Iowa baseball team. Now, Eva will be heading to Cedar Falls in the fall.
“I love the distance UNI is to home,” said Fulk, who ran on the seventh-place 4×400 and ninth-place sprint medley relays at last weekend’s Drake Relays. “I knew I wanted to stay relatively close to my family, and Cedar Falls is a perfect distance.”
