A six-run first inning sparked the second-ranked Ankeny Centennial softball team to an 11-1 victory over No. 7 Valley in five innings on Wednesday at Centennial.
The non-conference game was the home opener for the Jaguars, who improved to 4-3 on the season. Valley’s record dropped to 5-2.
Seniors Lauren Solis and Lizzy Klunder combined to drive in eight of Centennial’s runs. Solis went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs, while Klunder went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs.
Sydney Morris went 2-for-2 in the win. Payton Drefke went 2-for-4 with a double, and Addi Starr also doubled.
Jadeyn Stahr (2-2) earned the victory, allowing one earned run and four walks over the first four innings. She combined on a one-hitter with Jordyn Kennedy.
The Jaguars will play a CIML Iowa Conference doubleheader at Ankeny (3-2) on Thursday.
