Ankeny’s Kendra Winfrey punished the Creston softball team with her bat during the John Stevens Classic on Friday.
The junior’s left arm was a potent weapon as well.
Winfrey went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs while also pitching four scoreless innings to lead the 15th-ranked Hawkettes to a 15-0 victory over host Creston, the No. 9 team in Class 4A. The game ended after five innings.
Winfrey allowed just one hit and had three strikeouts before Delaney Sondgeroth came in to pitch the bottom of the fifth. She improved her record to 5-1.
Mariah Parton went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs as Ankeny (9-4) extended its winning streak to six games. Creston dropped to 9-3.
Alysa Lowe went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Hawkettes. Aubrey Lensmeyer also doubled and knocked in two runs, while Rylee Riesberg doubled and had one RBI.
Ashtyn Billings went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Eva Fulk tripled, stole two bases and scored three times.
Earlier on Friday, Ankeny rolled to a 12-1 win over Atlantic (9-5) in six innings. Billings (3-2) earned the victory, tossing a seven-hitter with six strikeouts.
Riesberg went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Lowe knocked in three runs, while Winfrey doubled and had two RBIs.
Larissa Miller, Fulk and Kennedy Palmer each had two hits in the win. Parton had three of the team’s 10 stolen bases.
Ankeny will play two more games in the tournament on Saturday, facing Mt. Ayr (7-2) at 9:45 a.m. and Knoxville (7-2) at 1:15 p.m. Knoxville is ranked 10th in Class 4A.
