The Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team couldn’t overcome Waukee Northwest’s depth in a CIML Conference dual meet on Thursday at Beaver Creek.
The host Wolves posted four scores of 50 or better to post a 185-200 victory. They improved to 2-2 in the conference, while the Jaguars’ record fell to 0-2.
“It was our first meet away from Briarwood,” said Centennial coach John Petersen. “Our team score was not what we wanted, but it was nice to get some outside experience.”
Centennial’s Payton Drefke carded a 5-over-par 41 to earn medalist honors. Northwest’s Amelia Habgood was the runner-up with a 43.
Drefke was also the medalist in the Jaguars’ one-stroke loss to Dowling Catholic on April 3 at Briarwood. The junior is now a four-time medalist in her career.
“We were happy that Payton was the medalist, playing against competition that was at state last year,” Petersen said.
Centennial’s Vivian Wilson shot a 48. Olivia Joensen fired a 55, Adelyne Peterson had a 56, Kate Geiselhart carded a 59, and Sophia Wilson finished with a 65.
“Brooke Ridout was playing JV and carded a 47, which is her lowest score in a meet,” Petersen said. “I know the girls are working hard to continue to improve!”
The Jaguars will play Otter Creek Golf Course twice next week. They will face host Ankeny and Urbandale in a CIML Conference triangular meet on Wednesday, then will be back on the same course Thursday for the Toni Dickey Invitational.
