The Ankeny bowling teams showed some improvement on Thursday despite being swept by Valley in a CIML Conference dual meet at Warrior Lanes.
Valley won the boys’ meet by a score of 2,601 to 2,415. The Tigers took the girls’ meet by a score of 2,065 to 1,897.
The Hawks and Hawkettes dropped to 0-2 in the conference, but both teams scored better than they did in their season opener against Johnston on Nov. 30 at B-Roll Bowling, where they posted totals of 2,303 and 1,844, respectively.
“The team has made improvements each week,” said Ankeny coach Nick Payton. “Right now we are working on being consistent. I am happy with how all of our teams have been able to understand the game of bowling a little bit more week by week.”
Sam Tigges led the Hawks with a 341 series. Gavin Johnston bowled a 330, Jamaal Miller had a 320, Zane Shoning rolled a 299, Jackson Roberts had a 295, and Jarrett Hansen added a 293.
Freshman Nick Long bowled a 397 series for Valley, which improved to 1-1 in the league and 1-2 overall.
Olivia Harris led the Hawkettes with a 320 series. Kali Ogg bowled a 312, Savannah Dye had a 226, Lilianna Sinclair rolled a 221, Brooklyn Dietz had a 192, and Ava Johnson finished with a 122.
The Valley girls’ team raised its records to 1-1 in the conference and 2-1 overall.
“I am always happy with improvement and with that comes wins,” Payton said. “We are working to be master technicians at the craft of bowling. I am confident that we will reach this goal by the end of the year.”
Ankeny will host a pair of non-conference meets next week at B-Roll Bowling–against Ames on Tuesday and Greene County on Thursday.
