It’s been a busy week for the Ankeny boys’ swimming team.
After traveling to Cedar Falls on Tuesday and with a trip to Iowa City on deck for Saturday, the Hawks traveled to Valley on Thursday and dropped a CIML Conference dual meet to the Tigers, 102.5-67.5.
The loss dropped Ankeny’s records to 1-2 in the conference and 3-3 overall.
“I think we can see a lot of positives from the meet,” said Ankeny senior Owen Schwebach. “Valley is a really good team, but I think we performed well. I saw a lot of guys getting motivated and swimming really fast; being the second road meet of the week this is so good for our confidence.
“I’m happy we got to race Valley. I have a very good friend from my club team there!” he added.
Schwebach provided two of the Hawks’ three victories. He won the 50 freestyle in 22.06 seconds, then took the 100 butterfly in 52.16.
“I was happy with my races,” Schwebach said. “I’m glad to get into the low 22s (for the 50), but there are still parts of the race to work on.”
Ankeny’s Brock Peterson placed second in the butterfly in 53.78. Another of Schwebach’s teammates, Bryer Pearson, tied for third in 54.81.
“My fly was OK, but being able to go first, second and a tie for third is another confidence-booster,” Schwebach said.
Nicholas Robie had the Hawks’ other first-place finish. He won the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.36, while Tommy Gilbert placed third in that event in 1:07.18.
Peterson had a runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke, turning in a time of 56.20. Owen Evans placed third in 56.88.
Evans earlier placed second in the 100 freestyle. He was clocked in 49.13.
Finn Stukerjurgen took third in the 200 individual medley in 2:05.48. Austin Troyer was third in the 50 freestyle in 23.22.
Ankeny placed second in all three of the relay events.
The Hawks will compete in the Little Hawk Invitational on Saturday at Iowa City.
“Obviously, this was a loss but we are looking forward to traveling to Iowa City,” Schwebach said. “It’s a meet which has a special place in our hearts.”
