Jase Bauer has found a new home.
The former Ankeny quarterback announced on social media Saturday that he is transferring to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. The Bearkats are members of Conference USA in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).
“New Chapter. Excited to get to work. #EatEmUpKats,” Bauer tweeted on X.
Bauer will have two years of eligibility after spending the last three seasons at Central Michigan, where he played in all 12 games in 2023 and helped the Chippewas to a 5-7 record. He passed for 1,881 yards and 12 touchdowns while also rushing for 365 yards and 10 more scores.
After entering the transfer portal, Bauer received interest from Washington State, Baylor, North Texas, Southern Illinois, Louisiana Tech, San Diego State, East Carolina and Arkansas State. He visited Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa and Sam Houston State before choosing the Bearkats.
Bauer led Ankeny to the Class 4A state title as a senior in 2020. He was named the captain of the Class 4A all-state team.
