The Ankeny Centennial basketball teams protected their home court on Tuesday against their crosstown rival.
Luke Winkel poured in 30 points and the Jaguars closed out the boys’ game on a 14-1 run to post a 64-52 victory over Ankeny. The win allowed Centennial to move into a third-place tie with the Hawks in the CIML Conference heading into the holiday break.
In the girls’ contest, neither team led by more than five points in a seesaw affair that featured seven ties and seven lead changes. Finley Blackmore made a 3-point goal with 5 minutes 15 seconds left to break a 44-44 tie and the Jaguars held on for a 50-49 win, allowing them to move into a four-way tie with Ankeny, Southeast Polk and Waukee Northwest for fifth place in the conference.
