It didn’t take long for the Ankeny Centennial boys’ soccer team to gain control of Tuesday’s non-conference game against visiting Mason City.
Isaac Keninger found the net about 1 minute into the contest, the Jaguars added three more goals in the first half and went on to post a 7-0 victory at Northview Middle School.
“We worked on some things,” said Centennial coach Brian Duax. “We got a lot of guys some minutes. It was good after the grueling weekend to just play one game and have two full days off before we play again. That’s the way soccer should be played.”
Centennial’s Ty Duax scored three goals in a game for the second time in his career. He also had a hat trick in a 10-0 win over Mason City two years ago.
Duax’s first goal gave the Jaguars a 2-0 advantage. Andrew Kruger and Lucas De La Cuba then followed with goals to make it 4-0 at halftime.
Kruger got his second goal early in the second half. Duax then scored the Jaguars’ final two goals.
Duax, Keninger and De La Cuba each had an assist in the win. Brock Brazeau, Amel Islamovic, Kaden MacPhail and Logan Page also had assists.
“Mason City played a super low press and made it difficult to break, but once the boys figured out the pattern we wanted to try to play to break them down, there was some really good soccer that happened today,” Duax said.
The Jaguars raised their record to 2-3 on the season. Mason City dropped to 1-1.
Centennial will host another non-conference game against Omaha (Neb.) Skutt Catholic on Friday, following the girls’ contest between the same two schools.
