The 2004-05 school year was a memorable one for Ankeny High School’s athletic teams.
The volleyball team won the first state title in school history. A few months later, the girls’ basketball squad captured a record fourth consecutive five-player crown.
It’s hard to believe that was 20 years ago.
In honor of those two achievements, Ankeny High School is planning a couple of recognition ceremonies over the next few months.
On Sept. 26, the 2004 volleyball team will be honored during the match between Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial. The Hawkettes’ other four championship teams will also be recognized.
Then, on Dec. 6, the members of the 2002-05 girls’ basketball squads will be honored during the hoops doubleheader between Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial. The school’s other championship teams will also be recognized.
