The Ankeny girls’ wrestling team rolled to a 69-12 victory at Urbandale in a CIML Conference dual meet on Tuesday.
Ankeny recorded six falls, all but one of them in the first period. Coach Dustin Roland’s team won five other matches by forfeit and also got a narrow victory in the final match at 110 pounds, where Zoe Sullivan posted an 8-6 decision over Abby Flaherty.
Ankeny raised its records to 3-2 in the conference and 14-3 overall.
“The girls did what they needed to do,” said Roland. “Zoe was able to win a tight match with a takedown in the last minute. It was good to get her a match under the spotlight in the the varsity lineup. She has a bright future. We dropped one match at 170 against a pretty solid wrestler.”
Ankeny got off to a fast start, notching pins in the first four matches. Nora Bockes got the ball rolling with the fastest pin of the night, needing just 32 seconds to flatten Sung Par at 115.
Ankeny also got falls from Trudy Haag at 120, Elyse Engebretson at 125, Audri Headrick at 130, Hayden Bratland at 140 and Lauren Watson at 105.
Roland’s team will host the Bob Sharp Invitational on Friday at Ankeny.
“I’m looking forward to the Bob Sharp tournament, which is growing in quality,” Roland said.
