The final game of Reed Anderson’s high school football career was played at Mediacom Stadium near the Drake University campus in Des Moines.
On Sunday, the Ankeny Centennial linebacker verbally committed to play for the Bulldogs next year.
“I had a visit at Drake this past weekend, and I really enjoyed it as the new coaching staff is great and helped make my decision easier,” said Anderson. “I liked the players I met during the visit and also I like how close Drake is to Ankeny as it’s only about a 15-minute drive. The coaching staff is all new to Drake, and we are all pumped to get going.”
Drake started recruiting Anderson after coach Joe Woodley left Grand View to take over the Bulldogs’ program. Woodley led the Vikings to the NAIA national championship.
“Grand View also recruited me under Woodley,” Anderson said. “I only really was in contact with about three schools down the stretch–Drake, Upper Iowa and Wartburg. I’m looking forward to joining the Bulldogs this fall and can’t wait for this new era of Drake football.”
Anderson helped Centennial to an 8-3 record last season. The Jaguars reached the Class 5A quarterfinals.
Anderson recorded a team-high 83 tackles, which ranked sixth in Class 5A. He had 48 solo stops.
Anderson was named to the Class 5A all-state first team by the Iowa Football Coaches Association. He was a repeat pick to the District 1 first team.
