Seniors Elyse Engebretson and Haylee McGrew each recorded their 100th career victories as the Ankeny girls’ wrestling team closed out the dual-meet season on Monday by winning the Pleasantville Duals.

Second-ranked Ankeny defeated Albia on a criteria decision after the two squads finished in a 39-39 tie. Coach Dustin Roland’s team was awarded the victory based on having fewer forfeits (two) than Albia (three).

Ankeny also posted wins over Cardinal, 58-18, and Pleasantville, 66-6. The squad finished with a 17-3 record–with its only losses coming to Southeast Polk, Cedar Falls and Raccoon River-Northwest.

Roland used a lineup comprised mostly of junior varsity wrestlers on Monday. However, the top-ranked McGrew and the No. 4 Engebretson each won twice, allowing them to reach the milestone.

Ankeny will compete in a Class 2A regional tournament on Friday at Cedar Rapids Jefferson. The action gets under way at 5 p.m.

Anamosa, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Clinton, Iowa City Liberty, Linn-Mar (Marion), Muscatine and Cedar Rapids Prairie will be the other teams in the field.

The state tournament is slated for Feb. 6-7 at Xtream Arena in Coralville.
