After posting another victory on Tuesday, the Ankeny girls’ bowling team is headed for a big showdown on Thursday.
Ankeny defeated host Des Moines Roosevelt by a score of 2,316 to 2,129 in a non-conference meet at Air Lanes Bowling Center. It was a season-high score for coach Nick Payton’s squad, which improved its overall record to 8-0.
Ankeny’s previous high was a total of 2,252 in a win over Johnston on Jan. 10 at Game Day Lanes.
“The girls’ varsity did a great job at working together as a team,” said Payton. “We competed from start to finish.”
Olivia Harris led the way with a 404 series. She had a high game of 214.
Kali Ogg bowled a 383 total, the best of her career. She recorded a high game of 194.
Johanna Shaw rolled a 323 series. Ava Johnson had a 250, Savannah Dye bowled a 240, and Brooklyn Dietz added a 235.
It was also a season-high score for the Roughriders, who dropped to 3-6.
Roosevelt won the boys’ meet by a score of 2,693 to 2,135. Sawyer Evans had a 393 series as the Roughriders improved to 5-4.
Joel Hansen led Ankeny with a 332 series, his highest of the season. He had a high game of 178.
George Inman bowled a 292, Connor McIhon had a 258, Sebastian Cook rolled a 240, and Aiden O’Conner finished with a 235.
The Ankeny boys’ squad fell to 0-8.
“We have had some freshmen step up and earn their way onto the boys’ varsity team,” Payton said. “They did a great job against Roosevelt.”
Ankeny will now travel to Waukee on Thursday to face the Warriors in a CIML Conference dual meet at Warrior Lanes. The Waukee girls and boys are 8-0 and 7-1 overall, respectively.
The girls’ meet will determine the league’s regular-season champion. The conference meet on Feb. 12 at Game Day Lanes will determine a tournament champion.
The Waukee girls’ team has posted a high score of 2,710.
