
The fourth-ranked Ankeny Centennial girls’ basketball team ended its season on Thursday with a 61-42 loss to No. 1 Johnston in the semifinals of the Class 5A state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.
Mya Crawford and Ava Martin each had 13 points for the Jaguars, who finished the season at 17-8. Jaeden Pratt added six points and seven rebounds.
“I was really proud of how we fought in the second half, but they’re a really good team,” said Centennial coach Scott DeJong. “There’s no margin for error.”
Amani Jenkins scored 19 points for Johnston (25-0), which extended its winning streak to 51 games. The Dragons will play No. 2 Dowling Catholic (22-3) in the Class 5A title game on Friday at 6 p.m.
“We tried our best,” said Crawford. “We knew that there was a possibility this could be our last game, and it ended up being that. But we gave it our all.”
