The Ankeny Centennial boys’ soccer team opened its season on Friday with a 2-1 loss at Iowa City West.
All of the scoring came in the second half.
“We played really well,” said Centennial coach Brian Duax. “It was just an unfortunate result.”
Tate Duax scored the lone goal for the Jaguars. He took seven of the team’s 12 shots–and five of them were on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Will Kreuger had three saves in the loss.
“We dominated the game. We had plenty of chances,” Duax said. “We could have or should have been up 2-0 or 3-0 in the first 25 minutes. Overall, I hate the result because the team deserved the win. The boys played really well.”
Centennial will face Cedar Rapids Washington on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Iowa City West tournament.
