After getting off to a good start in singles, the Ankeny boys’ tennis team got swept in doubles and dropped a 7-4 decision to visiting Valley in a CIML Conference meet on Tuesday.
It was the season opener for both squads.
“We played very well in singles, but our doubles needs work,” said Ankeny coach Ron Miller. “We will spend as much time as we can improving because without doubles we will struggle to win any matches.”
The Hawks built a 4-2 lead during singles play. They got three-set wins from Dylan Victor at the No. 1 position and Garrett Weichers at the No. 2 spot, while No. 5 player Treyton Riesberg and No. 6 player Trent James both won in straight sets.
However, the Tigers then dominated the doubles competition, winning all five matches in straight sets.
