The Ankeny girls’ golf team placed 10th among 14 squads in the Turk Bowman Invitational on Tuesday at Ames.
The Hawkettes posted a score of 421 at Veenker, one of the state’s toughest golf courses.
“Today, Veenker got the best of some of the girls,” said Ankeny coach Kelley Emke. “It’s a hard course that keeps testing you hole after hole, and unfortunately many of the girls had some tough holes.”
Ames won the meet on its home course, shooting a 350. Marshalltown was second with a 368, followed by Norwalk with a 383.
Marshalltown’s Natalie Henson carded a 73 to earn medalist honors. Ella Lohrbach of Gilbert was the runner-up with a 75.
Ankeny was led by Isabella Ross, who fired a 90 to place ninth in a field of 88 golfers.
“For Isabella to place ninth is amazing,” Emke said. “She continues to improve and push through hard obstacles to bring consistency.”
Madalyn Ross carded a 103 for the Hawkettes. Aubree Moeller had a 111, Catherine Nelson and Ava Clarkson each had a 117, and Ava Sesker added a 119.
Ankeny will face Johnston and Southeast Polk in a CIML Conference triangular meet on Wednesday at Jester Park.
“We’re looking forward to Jester and hoping for more of our normal scores.”
