Tuesday was the start of a busy week for the Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team.
The Jaguars traveled to Marion for the first of three meets in three days and placed 11th among 15 squads in the Linn-Mar Invitational at Hunters Ridge Golf Course.
“We had a rough start to the meet. We had some high scores on the first five holes of the meet,” said Centennial coach John Petersen, whose team went on to post a 397 total. “I was proud of the girls for bouncing back and finishing strong.”
Pleasant Valley shot a 327 to capture the team title, edging Cedar Rapids Xavier by one stroke. Cedar Rapids Washington was third with a 337.
Morgan Rupp of Linn-Mar carded a 3-under-par 69 to earn medalist honors. Molly Ratchford of Cedar Falls was the runner-up with a 75.
Kate Geiselhart fired a 93 to lead Centennial. She made a birdie on the par-4, No. 15 hole.
Cate Trewet shot a 98 for the Jaguars. Kaylee Sprecher carded a 101, Danika Kraus had a 105 and Lauren Wilford each had a 105, and Ava Entrekin finished with a 108.
“Our score today was very similar to our Toni Dickey Invite score, with Hunters Ridge being a course that we don’t have as much experience on,” Petersen said.
Centennial will face Urbandale and Waukee in a CIML Conference triangular meet on Wednesday at Sugar Creek.
