
The Ankeny girls’ track team rested many of its top athletes on Thursday as the Hawkettes placed ninth among 10 squads at the Waukee Invitational.
Coach TJ Jumper’s team finished with 34 points.
Sophia Graber provided Ankeny’s lone victory in the 3,000. She won the race in a time of 10:56.69, finishing nearly 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Contessa Guerrero-Jones of Southeast Polk.

Graber also finished sixth in the 800. She was clocked in 2:32.70.
Maliya Cobb placed third for the Hawkettes in the discus, recording a throw of 111 feet 10 inches. Teammate Sam Poock tossed 107-6 to earn a fifth-place finish.
Gwyn Christensen placed fifth in the shot put. She had a throw of 33-3.

Ankeny placed fifth in the 4×800 relay with a time of 11:04.12. The Hawkettes finished sixth in the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:12.47.
Waukee won the meet with 159 points. Southeast Polk placed second with 133.
Ankeny will return to Waukee next Thursday for the CIML Conference meet.
