Competing for the third time in three days, the Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team placed ninth among 13 squads in the Linda Bloom Invitational on Thursday at Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown.
The Jaguars posted a total of 392. Nevada also shot a 392, but earned eighth place due to a better fifth score.
“It’s been a lot of miles this week playing some of the tougher courses,” said Centennial coach John Petersen. “Our goal was to get experience on courses that challenge us to play a different style of course than we normally get to see. This week should help us as we are getting closer to districts.”
Ames shot a 324 to claim the team title. Pleasant Valley and Marshalltown each posted a 329 total, with two-time defending champion Waukee Northwest another stroke back at 330.
Natalie Henson of Marshalltown carded a 1-under-par 69 to earn medalist honors. Emerson Motl of Ames was the runner-up with a 76.
Kate Geiselhart carded a 93 to lead Centennial, placing 26th overall. She made a birdie on the par-4, No. 18 hole.
Cate Trewet shot a 97 for the Jaguars. Teagan Skinner had a 98 in her varsity debut, Danika Kraus fired a 104, Kaylee Sprecher had a 112, and Lauren Wilford finished with a 113.
