Ankeny Centennial baseball standout Will Morris has decided to follow in the footsteps of his older brother.
Morris, a pitcher and third baseman, has verbally committed to play for Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. His brother, Trey, started his college career at Ellsworth Community College, then spent his sophomore year at Iowa Central before transferring to Northwest Missouri State.
“It was a fairly easy decision for me because of their coaching staff and the success their baseball program has had in recent years,” said Morris. “Iowa Central just built a new turf baseball field and their other facilities were very nice, but most importantly their coaching staff really impressed me and I am excited to get up there to compete and develop.
“It was definitely beneficial that Trey played collegiate baseball including a year at Iowa Central and he loved it there, so that made me even more confident in my decision,” he added.
Morris helped the Jaguars to a 24-14 record as a junior. He led the team with a .417 average, 16 doubles and 34 RBIs while hitting a pair of home runs.
On the mound, Morris posted a 6-1 mark with a 3.52 ERA and a team-high 58 strikeouts. He was named to the 2025 all-state super team by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.
While Trey began his college career as a two-way player at Ellsworth, he focused on just hitting at Iowa Central and Northwest Missouri State. Will is also planning to start his career as a dual threat.
“They actually encouraged me to come in as a two-way player, which was exciting because that’s what I was wanting to do,” Morris said.
