Luke Mitchell had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Ankeny Centennial boys’ basketball team to a 63-37 victory over visiting Fort Dodge in a non-conference game on Saturday.
The Jaguars rebounded from Friday’s loss at Johnston by a similar score to raise their overall record to 3-6. It was the eighth straight loss for Fort Dodge, which fell to 1-10 on the season.
“It was good to see how our guys were able to come back in on Saturday morning, learn from the Johnston film and re-focus for the Fort Dodge prep,” said Centennial coach Matt Delger.
Brody Prill scored a career-high 11 points and also dished out four assists. He made his second straight start in place of fellow senior Kolby Bechen, who suffered an injury during Centennial’s win at Southeast Polk on Tuesday.
Prill had scored a total of 10 points in the previous eight contests.
“I thought Brody had a great game,” Delger said. “He brought great defensive energy and stepped up for us both Friday and Saturday.”
Hunter Runchey also had 11 points for the Jaguars, while Keaton Kasperbauer added 10. Trey Crawford had a pair of steals.
“We knew Fort Dodge would be scrappy,” Delger said. “I was pleased with how our guys responded to a couple of runs and cranked up the pressure and physicality on defense.”
The Jaguars will travel across town on Tuesday to play Ankeny (4-5) in a CIML Conference game. The Hawks won the first meeting at Centennial, 58-46, on Dec. 5.
“One of the things that makes the CIML the best league in the state is that we play every team twice,” Delger said. “We are excited for the second time through the league. Our young team learned a lot through the first wave, and we are excited to go to battle Tuesday night.”
