Ankeny boys’ basketball standouts Rio Aguirre and Jasani Campbell have earned all-state honors from the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association and the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
Aguirre, a senior guard, was named to the Class 4A first team. The Sioux Falls recruit was a second-team pick a year ago.
Campbell, a junior guard, was a second-team selection. He helped the Hawks to a 12-11 record.

Aguirre averaged a team-high 19.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He also led Ankeny with 58 3-point goals, 100 assists and 30 steals.
Aguirre surpassed the 1,000-point career mark this season. He scored 20 or more points 10 times, capped off by a career-high 41-point eruption in the Hawks’ loss at Waukee Northwest in a Class 4A substate final on March 3.
Campbell averaged 14.8 points and 3.0 rebounds. He scored a career-high 23 points in the Hawks’ 78-51 win over visiting Dallas Center-Grimes on Feb. 16, when he went 9-of-9 from the field and 4-of-4 from 3-point range.

“That was very nice recognition for our guys and respect for our conference as well,” said Ankeny coach Brandt Carlson.
Storm Lake star Jaidyn Coon, who will play for Creighton, was named Iowa’s Mr. Basketball.
