Wednesday, Feb. 7, is National Letter of Intent signing day for soccer athletes. This year the Iowa Rush Soccer Club has 18 athletes from across the state signing to play at the next level.
This is the second biggest signing class in the club’s history with players signing to play at Division I, II and III schools as well as one NAIA institution. The largest signing class was 2015 with 20 players going to the next level.
Iowa Rush is holding an official signing ceremony on Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Briarwood Golf Club in Ankeny.
Some interesting facts about this year’s committed players:
*Six of the 18 athletes are signing with Division 1 schools.
*Of the six Division I commitments, three will play in the Big 10 Conference come August at the University of Iowa, the University of Minnesota and the University of Nebraska.
*Five athletes are signing with Division II schools.
*Six players are signing with Division III schools including two girls and two boys who are headed to Wartburg College.
*The players represent nine different Iowa high schools.
*One of the commits is track standout Megan Gray, who holds the Ankeny Centennial record in 800 meters. She is signing with the University of Minnesota.
With this class, Iowa Rush has helped more than 120 players reach the next level to play collegiate soccer since 2010.
