The Ankeny Centennial girls’ tennis team suffered a 6-5 loss at Boone in a non-conference meet on Tuesday.
After the two teams split the six singles matches, Boone won three of the five doubles contests to even its record at 2-2. It was the third straight loss for the Jaguars, who dropped to 2-3 on the season.
“There was some outstanding play,” said Centennial coach Emily Phommachack. “We definitely have some areas to improve, but Boone was some great competition.”
The Toreadors were led by Davi Patterson, who placed fourth in singles at last year’s Class 2A state tournament. She posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Alyssa Lewton at No. 1 singles, then teamed up with Emily Braun for another win at No. 1 doubles.
“Alyssa hit the ball real well,” Phommachack said. “She went to deuce a few times and almost broke Davi’s serve. It was the best I’ve seen her play this year.”
Centennial got victories in singles from Alli Gustafson, Katie Miller and Olivia Vandeloo. Miller then combined with Rita Nisius to win the No. 2 doubles match.
The Jaguars’ other win came at No. 5 doubles, where Tayler Bloom and Ellie Bryan won in straight sets.
