Madi McCormick made an impressive varsity debut for the Ankeny girls’ golf team on Wednesday.
McCormick shot a 53 in the Hawkettes’ 164-206 dual-meet loss to third-ranked Waukee at Sugar Creek Golf Course.
“This was Madi’s first varsity meet because we had some of the girls that were unavailable due to other commitments,” said Ankeny coach Seth Hagarty. “She stepped up big time and shot her season best and recorded our second-best score of the day.”
Jaci Webb led Ankeny with a 43. She made a par on two of the last four holes on the front nine.
“Jaci got back on track after a tough outing on Monday at Lake Panorama and tied for third place today,” Hagarty said. “Overall, I thought we played very well as a team, and it was nice to see the girls playing relaxed and having fun on the course.”
Emily Schon carded a 54 for the Hawkettes. Caroline Price fired a 56, Lexi Russell had a 57, and Rachel Moore finished with a 66.
Waukee’s Grace Gallagher was the medalist with a 2-over-par 36. Teammate Brooke Boardman was the runner-up with a 41.
Ankeny, which finished with a 0-5 record in the CIML Central Conference, will play in the Southeast Polk Invitational on Thursday at Copper Creek.
