The Ankeny boys’ tennis team ended its season on Saturday with a 5-0 loss to Ames in a Class 2A substate semifinal at Ankeny.
The Hawks posted a 6-6 record in their final season under coach Randy Daniels, who had previously announced his retirement.
Daniels took over the Ankeny program in 2012 following the death of longtime coach Dennis Hoefle. He guided the Hawks to a 26-51 mark in seven seasons.
Valley then defeated Ames in the substate final, 5-2, to advance to the state team tournament. The Little Cyclones finished with an 8-4 record.
