Only one stroke separated the Ankeny Centennial and Ames girls’ golf teams on Tuesday at Briarwood Golf Club.
Unfortunately, the Jaguars came out on the short end.
The visiting Little Cyclones posted a 195-196 victory in the CIML Central Conference dual meet. Centennial’s records dropped to 0-2 in the league and overall.
Despite the loss, Centennial coach John Petersen remained optimistic.
“I like the way the season has started. We have been very competitive,” Petersen said. “Our girls have such positive attitudes and really want to lower their scores. I’m still extremely excited to see how low our scores can go.”
While Ames won the dual meet, the Jaguars captured individual honors. Lauren Sease shot a 40 to earn medalist honors, edging Ames’ Megan Riesselman by one shot.
“It was great to see Lauren come out of the meet as medalist for the second time this year,” Petersen said.
Centennial’s Megan Lazear carded a 50. Lexi Simpson had a 52, Riley Stewart shot a 54, Claire Beath fired a 59, and Morgan Kinch finished with a 65.
The Jaguars will travel across town to Otter Creek on Thursday to compete in the Toni Dickey Invitational.
