Tyler Heinzerling is a senior pitcher on the Ankeny Centennial baseball team. He threw 4 2/3 innings of shutout relief in the Jaguars’ 6-3 loss to visiting Southeast Polk in a Class 4A substate final on July 24.
Heinzerling compiled a 6-0 record with a 2.17 ERA while limiting opposing batters to a .213 average this season. He was named to the CIML Central Conference second team.
“Tyler was an incredible leader both on and off the field,” said Centennial coach Mark Hey. “Not only was he one of the top pitchers in the conference, but he helped set the culture of the team. He defines what it means to be a great teammate.”
Heinzerling has been selected to play in the Senior All-Star Series by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Catcher Evan Lyons of Ankeny will also participate in the event, which will be held later this week at Carroll.
