The Ankeny boys’ basketball team is headed to the state tournament for the first time since 2012.
Crosstown rival Ankeny Centennial will be making the trip to Wells Fargo Arena for the first time ever.
Both squads qualified for the Class 4A tournament with victories on Tuesday. Top-ranked Centennial posted a 58-42 win over Johnston in a substate final at Southeast Polk, while Ankeny outlasted Sioux City East, 73-67, in a thriller at Fort Dodge.
The Class 4A pairings will be announced on Wednesday following a conference call between the coaches to determine the seedings. Check back later for complete coverage of both games.
