The Ankeny bowling teams traveled to Air Lanes Bowling Center on Tuesday for their final dual meet of the season and came away with a split.
The Hawks defeated host Des Moines Roosevelt by a score of 2,433 to 2,373 in the non-conference matchup. The Roughriders won the girls’ meet by a score of 1,744 to 1,517, even though the Hawkettes posted a season-high total.
The Ankeny boys’ team improved its overall record to 3-9 with the narrow victory. Roosevelt dropped to 2-7.
“It went down to the wire, but the boys buckled down and pulled through,” said Ankeny coach Lane Richtsmeier. “They like to get my blood pressure up. With a 14-pin lead going into the last Baker game, I was sure getting nervous, mainly because Roosevelt was bowling well and had a good rhythm.
“It was a good back-and-forth battle,” he added.
Blake Schumacher led the Hawks with a 386 series. He bowled a 212 in his first game.
Kole Jordan had a season-high 368 series, Jackson Roberts rolled a 317, Jay Miller had a 315, Chase Jordan bowled a 256, and Aidan Doruska added a 228.
Lynn Cronk led the Ankeny girls’ team with a 294 series. She bowled back-to-back games of 151 and 143.
Marissa Larson-Minar had a 268 series, and Kali Ogg bowled a 251. Lilianna Sinclair rolled a 150 in her second game to finish with a 239 total.
The Hawkettes are now 1-11 overall. Roosevelt raised its record to 2-7.
The Ankeny teams will now have a week off before traveling to Marshalltown on Feb. 10 for the CIML Iowa Conference meet at Wayward Social.
