The Iowa Western Community College football team has produced a lot of high-level recruits over the years.
Ankeny Centennial receiver Isaiah Stearns is hoping to be another one.
Stearns has committed to play for the Reivers next fall. He announced his decision via Twitter on Wednesday.
“Blessed to announce my commitment to Iowa Western!!” Stearns tweeted. “I am thankful for my recruitment out of high school and thankful for all the colleges recruiting me. It truly has been an amazing experience and I’m excited to see what God has planned!!”
Stearns helped the Jaguars to a 4-6 record last season. He was a second-team all-district pick.
Stearns was Centennial’s second-leading receiver, catching 13 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 22.5 yards per catch, and his longest reception covered 71 yards.
Stearns, who also averaged 15.6 yards on eight kickoff returns, said he looked at a lot of schools before making his decision. Iowa Western, located in Council Bluffs, is one of the top programs in the National Junior College Athletic Association.
The Reivers won 17 straight games before falling to New Mexico Military Institute, 31-13, in the NJCAA championship game on Dec. 17 at Little Rock, Ark.
“My main focus was on the schools I believed I could make the biggest impact early on,” he said. “Another factor was the competition level. There’s great competition over there at (defensive back), and that can only improve me for when I transfer out. There’s also a lot of competition at (wide receiver) so I’ll be competing with the best of the best.”
