The Ankeny Centennial girls’ basketball team appears to have a favorable path to the Class 5A state tournament.
The road to Wells Fargo Arena looks more daunting for crosstown rival Ankeny.
The Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union announced its Class 5A postseason pairings on Wednesday. Third-ranked Centennial is the No. 1 seed in Region 2, while No. 12 Ankeny is the No. 2 seed in Region 3.
Centennial (18-2) will host Marshalltown (1-20) in a regional semifinal on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. The Jaguars have already routed Marshalltown twice, 66-23 and 59-6.
No. 14 Sioux City East (14-6) will host Council Bluffs Lincoln (9-11) or Sioux City West (7-12) in the other regional semifinal. Centennial would host the regional final on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.
Ankeny (14-6) will host Waukee (9-11) or Des Moines Lincoln (6-13) in a regional semifinal on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. The Hawkettes lost at Waukee, 53-45, on Jan. 18.
Roosevelt (17-2) will host Des Moines East (1-19) in the other regional semifinal. The highest remaining ranked team will host the regional final on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.
