The Ankeny Centennial boys’ tennis team accomplished something on Thursday that no other squad has managed to do.
The Jaguars won a few matches against fourth-ranked Waukee Northwest.
The visiting Wolves posted an 8-3 victory in a CIML Iowa Conference matchup to remain unbeaten. They improved to 5-0 in the league and 7-0 overall.
Northwest had lost only one match all season prior to Thursday.
“We actually did better than anyone else so far who has played them,” said Centennial coach Tami Lewton. “Overall, I think the meet really shows our improvement from meet one to now.”
Centennial’s Caleb Peterson posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Kaden Taylor at No. 1 singles. He raised his singles mark to 9-0.
“Caleb had a fantastic match,” Lewton said.
Peterson then teamed up with Kellen Jones for a three-set victory at No. 1 doubles.
“It was a really tight match, and they played so well,” Lewton said. “They communicated and had a great game plan.”
The Jaguars also got a three-set win from the No. 5 doubles team of Braden Miller and Andrew Law.
“They lost the first set, but just kept pressing and came back to win,” Lewton said. “We were close at 2 and 3 doubles, but could not pull those out.”
Centennial fell to 1-3 in the conference and 4-6 overall. The Jaguars will travel to Fort Dodge on Monday for an Iowa Conference meet against the Dodgers.
