The Ankeny Centennial softball team split a pair of games against other ranked opponents on Friday at the Ballard Invitational.
The fifth-ranked Jaguars posted a 6-0 victory over Ballard, the No. 11 team in Class 3A. They then dropped a 9-2 decision to unbeaten Central Springs, the No. 1 team in Class 2A.
Centennial, which was coming off a late doubleheader sweep at Ankeny on Thursday night, is now 7-4 on the season.
Jadeyn Stahr (4-2) tossed a three-hitter in the win over Ballard (3-3). She walked none and had two strikeouts.
The Jaguars took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. They added one run in the fourth, another in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
Sydney Morris went 2-for-2 and drove in a run. Payton Drefke went 2-for-3 and scored twice.
Lauren Solis, Lauren Gustofson and Hanna McSparen each had one RBI in the win.
Central Springs (5-0) pounded out 13 hits to snap Centennial’s four-game winning streak. Shortstop Ashlyn Hoeft led the way, going 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs.
Jordyn Kennedy (0-1), the first of four Centennial pitchers, took the loss. She allowed one earned run over two innings, giving up three hits and four walks.
Morris went 2-for-3 with a double to raise her average to .394. Solis went 1-for-3 and knocked in a run.
The Jaguars will play a CIML Iowa Conference doubleheader at No. 1 Waukee Northwest (7-2) on Monday.
