The Class 4A substate baseball assignments have been announced by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
Both Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial might have to defeat a highly-ranked opponent in order to qualify for the state tournament.
The 10th-ranked Hawks (13-8) have been placed in Substate 7 along with No. 5 Urbandale (17-8). Des Moines East (8-18), Des Moines Lincoln (3-19), Indianola (17-7) and Ottumwa (15-10) are also in that bracket.
The Jaguars (14-9) have been placed in Substate 2 along with No. 1 Johnston (23-1). Ames (12-12), Des Moines North (0-16), Fort Dodge (10-13) and Mason City (12-12) are also in that bracket.
Ankeny Christian Academy, meanwhile, has been placed in District No. 13 in Class 1A. The eighth-ranked Eagles (20-0) are joined in that district by Baxter (3-11), Collins-Maxwell (7-7), Earlham (2-12), Madrid (7-8), Martensdale-St. Marys (13-8), Murray (6-10) and Ogden (13-6).
Postseason pairings will be announced at a later date.
