Abby Rusher is the latest Ankeny softball player to make a verbal commitment.
The junior pitcher announced on Twitter Tuesday that she has decided to play for Creighton.
“I am so excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Creighton University,” Rusher tweeted. “I am so thankful for my family and teammates that pushed me to be my best.”
Rusher posted a 3-1 record with a 1.34 ERA last season. She limited opposing batters to a .163 average.
Rusher also batted .296 with one double and 10 RBIs in just 27 at-bats. She helped the Hawkettes to a 27-13 mark.
Rusher said she picked the Bluejays over two other schools.
“I narrowed it down to three Midwest universities by the end of October,” she said. “I wanted to stay within driving distance of my family. All three schools had softball programs that were competitive with excellent coaching staff, which made my decision hard. I took about a month just playing in tournaments and researching my options carefully.
“I chose Creighton for their high academics and unparalleled opportunities. After meeting the coaching staff and the team, Creighton felt like home. Head coach Krista Wood made me feel confident in my future and my growth as a pitcher,” she added.
