The Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial boys’ track teams combined to win six events in the Early Bird Relays on Tuesday at Waukee Northwest.
No team scores were kept at the meet, which attracted a field of six schools.
“The team competed and placed very well throughout,” said Ankeny coach Jordan Mullen.
The Jaguars had eight top-three finishes overall, including a victory by Sam Dietz in the shot put. He won the event with a toss of 53 feet 11 inches.
“He’s had a number of throws over 53 feet this year,” said Centennial coach Nate Smith.
Centennial’s Max Snyder won the 100 in 11.30 seconds. He also anchored the runner-up 4×100 relay, teaming up with Arian Ulrich, Isaiah Bassett and Lawson Langford to post a time of 44.03 seconds.
The Jaguars’ other win came in the sprint medley relay. The foursome of Ulrich, Langford, Drake Dittmar and Cael Woods was clocked in 1:39.72.
Langford and Dittmar also ran on the second-place 4×400 relay. They combined with Brayden Adams and Braeden Jackson to post a time of 3:36.90.
Woods also placed second in the 400 hurdles. He turned in a time of 59.83 seconds.
Centennial’s AJ Schermerhorn added a second-place finish in the 1,600. He was clocked in 4:37.29.
“We had a lot of good performances,” Smith said. “Blaine Sandquist had a PR in the discus, Jonas Smith and Gabe Hadley both PR’d in the 3,200, and Zech Howe, Corbin Vander Weerdt and Kyler Jones all ran well in the 400.”
Ankeny, meanwhile, swept the jumping events. Cade Pederson took the long jump with a leap of 21 feet 7 inches.
Cash Schoolen won the high jump at 6-1. Centennial’s Kaleb Kruzich took third in that event at 5-10.
The Hawks also got a victory from Gavin Wise in the 110 hurdles. He posted a time of 16.15 seconds.
“Our long jumpers, high jumpers and hurdlers all PR’d,” Mullen said.
Ankeny’s Chase Bradley placed second in the 400. He was clocked in 53.58.
