Ankeny Centennial seniors Gabby Mixdorf, Addie Pollock and Anna Sash have been named to the academic all-state volleyball team by the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association. They are the first players from Ankeny or Centennial to be selected to the squad since 2019.

An athlete must be a senior and meet two of the following three criteria to earn academic all-state honors:

* A cumulative GPA of 3.75 AND

* ACT score of 27 or higher (1,200 or higher SAT)

* Class rank in top 15 percent for 3A-5A schools and top 20 percent for 1A-2A schools

All three Jaguars are part of the National Honor Society, Silver Cord and Spanish National Honors Society and are very involved in the community.

Mixdorf, who boasts a 4.27 GPA, competed in the state team tennis tournament last spring. She participates in Seal of Biliteracy, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Garden Club, and she works at Hy-Vee. Mixdorf plans to go to Iowa State to study something in the STEM field.

Pollock, who has compiled a 4.18 GPA, played on Centennial’s state championship softball team last summer and is a middle-distance runner on the girls’ track squad. She participates in Seal of Biliteracy, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a director for Centennial Digital. Pollock plans to go to Iowa State to study climate science and Spanish.

Sash, who boasts a 4.05 GPA, also participates in girls’ soccer, PEOPEL PE, Circle of Friends and the Unified leadership team. She works for The Study Loft Daycare and Centennial Digital. Sash plans to go to Wartburg to play volleyball and study to be an elementary PE teacher.

The trio has helped second-ranked Centennial to a 31-6 record this season. The Jaguars will play No. 3 Waukee Northwest in the Class 5A semifinals at the state tournament on Wednesday at 10:25 a.m. at Xtream Arena in Coralville.
