Ankeny senior Nick Meyer has verbally committed to play baseball at Simpson College.
Meyer said he considered a few other schools before choosing the Storm.
“It ultimately wasn’t really a tough decision for me,” he said. “I was familiar with the school with my mom being an alumna, so that made it a lot easier just knowing from prior knowledge what Simpson is like and already having familiarity.”
Meyer, a pitcher, helped the Hawks to a 21-20 record last season. He made 11 appearances on the mound with five starts.
Meyer compiled a 2-3 mark with a 6.06 ERA. He recorded a pair of saves.
The Simpson roster already includes three former Ankeny players, including freshman pitchers Easton Dunwoody and Dylan Schlee. Junior infielder Lucas Juhl also plays for the Storm.
“I did look at some other schools like Wartburg, Dordt and Coe College, but Simpson just felt like the right place for me,” Meyer said. “What I liked about Simpson was the culture, facilities and especially the coaches. Head Coach Nathan Roling and (assistant) coach Ryan Willis were so helpful throughout the whole process, and that really makes you feel more comfortable when making a final decision.
“I can’t wait to play for them for the next four years,” he added.
