The Ankeny bowling teams were hoping to make a smashing debut in their first-ever meet at B-Roll Bowling.
But visiting Johnston had other ideas.
The Dragons swept Ankeny in a season-opening CIML Conference dual meet on Thursday. They won the boys’ meet by a score of 2,315 to 2,303 and the girls’ meet by a score of 1,973 to 1,844.
The Johnston boys’ team avenged last year’s 36-pin loss to the Hawks. The Dragons were led by Keiden Cowell, who bowled a 357 series.
Sam Tigges led the Hawks with a 330 series. Gavin Johnston bowled a 315, Jamaal Miller had a 310, Jackson Roberts rolled a 273, Zane Shoning had a 260, and Jarrett Hansen added a 240.
In the girls’ meet, Johnston defeated Ankeny by almost the same margin that the Hawkettes won by a year ago. Maria Wilcox rolled a 321 series to pace the Dragons.
Ankeny’s Olivia Harris led all the girls with a 331 series. Kali Ogg bowled a 241 for the Hawkettes, Brooklyn Dietz had a 235, Savannah Dye rolled a 223, Lilianna Sinclair bowled a 182, and Ava Johnson added a 151.
Ankeny will be back in action on Thursday, facing Valley in another conference meet at Warrior Lanes.
