The Waukee boys’ and the Johnston girls’ basketball teams are the lone remaining unbeaten squads in CIML Conference play.
Mason Costello scored 19 points to lead four Waukee players in double figures as the Warriors pulled away in the second half for a 70-51 victory at Ankeny Centennial on Friday. Ankeny, meanwhile, got 24 points from Carson Johnson and held on for a 79-77 win at Dowling Catholic to move into a tie with defending Class 4A state champion Valley for second place.
On the girls’ side, Johnston rolled to a 67-50 triumph at Valley on Thursday in a matchup of the top two squads in Class 5A. The Dragons now own a one-game lead over No. 5 Waukee, which moved into sole possession of second place with a 51-37 victory at Centennial on Friday.
The Warriors will host Johnston on Thursday with a chance to move into a tie for first.
